Basic Tandem

Overview: Learn to paddle your canoe effectively and safely with a partner.

People that take this course:

  1. Paddling for years with no training;
  2. Never been in a canoe before;
  3. Just bought a canoe and want to paddle it well.
  4. Want to paddle Bowron lake or the Powell River Lake Chain
    1. If you want to paddle "the Chute" here is your course

Skills:

  1. Paddling in a straight line, turns, docking, beaching, and most importantly - keep up right!
  2. Strokes: Forward, Reverse,"J" , Sweep, Draw, and Pry;
  3. What to do if your canoe does over: T rescue or called Canoe over Canoe.

(Tipping is not required unless you require the certificate)


Topic
:

  1. Paddles, styles of paddles and sizing, PFD’s (Personal Flotation Devices (life jacket)) and sizing, dry equipment and what you need to bring for safety paddling;
  2. We touch on packing for a trip, and how to work together;
  3. Trim and balance of a canoe.

Certificates: Paddle Canada or Recreational Canoe Associate of BC.
